Opposing Flash Ads

Ads are important to a free internet and flash has its uses for the time being (online games and video stand out).  But put the two together and I am wroth. Wroth, I say!

I’m against using ad blockers because,ultimately, you’re just screwing yourself out of good content (assuming that the sites you visit get their income from ads).  But Flash ads,prevalent as they are, cross a line that should not be crossed.  Especially since there’s absolutely no need!

Of course as HTML and Javascript get more powerful Flash should become more and more obscure used only when there is no other option.  But this shift takes time and sites like CNN still rely on flash ads.

So, I recommend you use a flash blocker – any browser that supports extensions has a flash block extension.  For Chrome, I use FlashBlock
